چکیده

Current-day cosmic ray (CR) propagation studies use static Milky-Way models and fit parametrized source distributions to data. Instead, we three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of isolated galaxies with the moving-mesh code AREPO that self-consistently accounts for hydrodynamic effects CR protons. In post-processing, calculate their steady-state spectra, taking into account all relevant loss processes. We show this assumption is well justified in disc generally regions emit non-thermal radio gamma rays. Additionally, model spectra primary electrons, accelerated by supernova remnants, secondary electrons positrons produced hadronic proton interactions gas. find above 10 GeV only weakly depend on galactic radius, while they acquire a radial dependence at lower energies due Coulomb interactions. Radiative losses steepen central diffusive dominate outskirts. Secondary exhibit steeper spectrum than primaries because originate from transported spectra. Consistent Voyager-1 AMS-02 data, our (i) turn-over below so start total particle (ii) match shape positron fraction up GeV. conclude modeling MHD-CR galaxy sufficiently realistic capture dominant transport shaping arguing full MHD treatment accurately future.

Cosmic Rays and Non-Thermal Emission in Galaxy Clusters

We discuss the origin of thermal and nonthermal phenomena in galaxy clusters. Specifically, we present some expectations for the non-thermal emission (from radio to gamma ray wavelenghts) expected in a model in which secondary electrons are produced via pp collisions in the intracluster medium. We also discuss the possibility to test this cosmic ray model in the light of recent data on radio ha...

Cosmic Rays, Radio Halos and Non-Thermal X-ray Emission in Clusters of Galaxies

We calculate the flux of radio, hard X-ray and UV radiation from clusters of galaxies as produced by synchrotron emission and Inverse Compton Scattering of electrons generated as secondaries in cosmic ray interactions in the intracluster medium. Both the spatial distribution of cosmic rays due to their diffusion and the spatial distribution of the intracluster gas are taken into account. Our ca...

Simulating cosmic rays in clusters of galaxies – III. Non-thermal scaling relations and comparison to observations

Complementary views of galaxy clusters in the radio synchrotron, hard X-ray inverse Compton, and high-energy γ-ray regimes are critical in calibrating them as high-precision cosmological probes. We present predictions for scaling relations between cluster mass and these non-thermal observables. To this end, we use high-resolution simulations of a sample of galaxy clusters spanning a mass range ...

Galactic Cosmic Rays in the Local Interstellar Medium: Voyager 1 Observations and Model Results

Since 2012 August Voyager 1 has been observing the local interstellar energy spectra of Galactic cosmic-ray nuclei down to 3MeV nuc and electrons down to 2.7 MeV. The H and He spectra have the same energy dependence between 3 and 346MeV nuc, with a broad maximum in the 10–50MeV nuc range and a H/He ratio of 12.2 ± 0.9. The peak H intensity is ∼15 times that observed at 1 AU, and the observed lo...

Non thermal emission in lusters of galaxies

I briefly review our current knowledge of the non thermal emission from galaxy clusters and discuss future prospect with Simbol-X. Simbol-X will map the hard X–ray emission in clusters, determine its origin and disentangle the thermal and non-thermal components. Correlated with radio observations, the observation of the non-thermal X-ray emission, when confirmed, will allow to map both the magn...
